Quick Summary

Curvy Girl Summer follows Aaliyah James, an IT professional who’s about to hit the big 3-0 and is determined to finally find the one. She throws herself into the world of online dating, but after a string of predictable (and sometimes disastrous) dates, she finds herself drawn to Ahmad, the smooth and charming bartender who’s been right in front of her the whole time. With body positivity, friendship, and a little bit of self-discovery along the way, Aaliyah’s summer is one for the books.

What I Loved

  • Aaliyah is super relatable. She’s confident, funny, and self-assured while still dealing with the all-too-real struggles of dating in your late 20s. Plus, the way this book embraces body positivity was really refreshing.

  • The banter is top-tier. The chemistry between Aaliyah and Ahmad is effortless, and their conversations had me grinning like an idiot.

  • The friendships shine. I loved Aaliyah’s interactions with her friends—their group chats and heart-to-hearts felt so real and added depth beyond just the romance.

  • It’s a feel-good read. While the book tackles deeper themes like self-worth and setting boundaries, it never gets too heavy. It’s a great mix of lighthearted fun and meaningful moments.

What Didn’t Quite Work for Me

  • The middle dragged. There were a lot of dates, and after a while, they started feeling repetitive rather than pushing the story forward. I would’ve been totally fine if a few had been cut.

  • Her uncle was the worst. He added so much unnecessary drama, and honestly, I could’ve done without him.

  • The storyline was a little predictable. I mean, I knew where this was going from the start, but sometimes that’s part of the charm in a romcom!

Who Should Read This?

If you love romcoms with body positivity, strong friendships, and tons of flirty banter, you’ll enjoy Curvy Girl Summer. It’s perfect for fans of feel-good romance with a little bit of self-discovery thrown in.

Final Thoughts

This was such a cute, summery read. It had great vibes, fun characters, and a heartwarming romance. While it could’ve been trimmed down a bit, the message of self-love and knowing your worth made it worth the read. If you’re looking for something light, flirty, and full of charm, this one’s for you!
