Quick Summary

The second book in the Devil’s Night series, Hideaway shifts focus to Kai and Banks, weaving a story full of mystery, intrigue, and forbidden romance. With more suspense and an even darker atmosphere than Corrupt, this installment pulls readers deeper into the tangled world of the Horsemen, while introducing a fierce and unforgettable heroine in Banks.

What I Loved

  • More Mystery & Intrigue: The thriller elements in Hideaway were a major step up from Corrupt, making the plot feel more engaging and unpredictable.

  • Banks Stole the Show: As a strong, feisty, and sharp-witted FMC, Banks was an absolute standout. Despite the impossible weight of her circumstances, she fought back with intelligence, grit, and a wickedly smart mouth that made her impossible not to root for.

  • Kai’s Care for Banks: While Kai himself was a bit bland, his tenderness and unwavering care for Banks made their slow-burn romance swoon-worthy. Their dynamic—an instant connection tested by countless external roadblocks—kept the tension high.

What Didn’t Quite Work for Me

  • Kai Lacked the Edge I Expected: While he was sweet and protective, he didn’t have the same commanding presence or complexity as other characters in the series, making him feel a bit flat at times.

  • Pacing Issues: While the added mystery made this installment more intriguing, some sections dragged, making the story feel slower than necessary.

Who Should Read This?

If you liked Corrupt but wanted more suspense and intrigue, Hideaway is worth picking up. Fans of slow-burn romance, strong heroines, and high-stakes tension will find plenty to enjoy here.

Final Thoughts

While Hideaway still had some pacing issues and a less compelling hero, the stronger plot, deeper mystery, and unforgettable FMC made it a more engaging read than Corrupt. Banks carried this book with her fire, resilience, and wit, and her slow-burn romance with Kai added an extra layer of tension that kept me invested. Not a perfect read, but definitely a solid improvement in the series!
